Garador Automation
Opening your garage door from your car is not only easy, it’s safe too. At the touch of a button, the automatic operator opens the garage door and lights the garage interior. You drive into the garage and the door can then be closed behind you. All without leaving the safety and comfort of your car.
All Garador operators come as standard with two hand transmitters. For additional safety and security, hand transmitters select a code from more than 1 billion possibilities.
Selection of the correct model – The range comprises four models each with three different applications, please establish your door type before ordering or call us for advice.
Options – Other options available include a range of hand transmitters as well as switches, wall consoles and push buttons.
Door Security Device – To prevent your garage door from being forced open, all our operators feature a security device which engages in the mechanism’s boom on closing. This security device remains fully functional even during a power failure.
No Trap Risk – If obstructed, the automatic cut-out halts the closing door and automatically raises it about 30cms. This safety mechanism is self-adjusting and self-testing.
Universal Fitting – All Garador Up & Over and Sectional doors are compatible with the earlier Auto Expert and current GaraMatic operators.

Garador Springs & Box Units
Mk3C / C-Type garage doors can be identified by the Garador spring box unit mounted above the door which contains two Garador springs.
Garador C-Type 1999 to 2002 geared canopy garage doors are easily identified by the the jamb mounted encased spring at each side of the door, take care not to confuse with Mk4/F-Type garage doors.
Mk4 / F-Type door springs are easily identified by the fact that they are only fitted to steel framed doors, with one spring located within each frame leg.
Garador CM and later DC (Double Canopy) are easily identified by the tracks which are shorter than on retractable garage doors and are self supporting, the Garador springs are located behind each door jamb.
Mk3R doors made until 1984 can be identified by their lifting arms which are not only cranked but are made from ‘C’ section, as opposed to box section or solid steel, Garador springs are located behind each door jamb.
For additional spring details please see below and if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
Garador Mk3R retractable doors were discontinued in favour of a new broader range of retractable doors on updated Garador RM gear some years ago.
Mk3R garage doors can be identified by their lifting arms which are not only cranked but are made from ‘C’ section, as opposed to box section or solid steel. The Garador springs are identified by their tag number which if still in existence, should be wired to one end of the spring.
- Garador springs with Tag Number 131 can be replaced with GAS3710 (S108-907) RM/DR springs – see other section
 - Garador springs with Tag Number 132 can be replaced with GAS3780 (S108-927) RM/DR springs – see other section
 - Garador springs with Tag Number 134 can be replaced with GAS3700 (S108-903) RM/DR springs – see other section
 - Garador springs with Tag Number 141 can be replaced with GAS3760 (S108-923) RM/DR springs – see other section

To make the springs fit you will need to rotate the bottom spring bracket by 180 degrees and re-fix it due to the substitute springs being slightly longer than the original ones.
In the highly likely event of the tag no longer being in existence the following information should prove useful in identifying the door.
Tag Number 131 springs were fitted to – 7′ 10 1/2″ x 6′ 6 3/4″ Georgian style doors
Tag Number 132 springs were fitted to – 7′ 0″ x 6′ 6″ Georgian style doors
Tag Number 134 springs were fitted to – 7’0″ x 7′ 0″ Georgian style doors
Tag Number 141 springs were fitted to – 7′ 0″ x 6′ 6″ and 7′ 0″ x 7′ 0″ horizontally ribbed doors
All four compatible springs can be found in the Garador RM / DR Springs section.
Garador R and FR, (Retractable and Steel Framed Retractable), geared fully retractable doors are easily identified by the full size overhead tracks and Garador springs located behind each door jamb.
Garador RM and later DR (Double Retractable) geared fully retractable doors are, like the R and FR doors, easily identified by the full size overhead tracks and Garador springs located behind each door jamb.
More detailed information on each gear type can be found within each section.
Our Mk4 / F-Type springs, genuine or pattern are made to suit compatible garage doors manufactured from the late 1970’s up until when they were superseded by a new system in 2002.
Mk4 / F-Type springs are identified by a number which is punched into the screw in tag at the top of the spring on more recent springs, whereas, on early springs there is no screw in tag, just two loops of spring wire, the number on these early springs is found on the side of the white plastic collar.
Please view or download the spring identification chart here to assist you in ordering the correct spring for the garage door being repaired. We strongly recommend replacing these springs in pairs as often the other spring is not far from the end of its serviceable life anyway.
Garador Mk3C / C-Type canopy garage doors were discontinued in 1999 in favour of a new C-Type gear with side extension springs.
Mk3C / C-Type garage doors manufactured up to 1999, can be identified by the spring box unit mounted above the garage door which contains two springs connected to cables which run over a pulley wheels at the top corners of the garage door frame and within the side tracks, down to the roller spindles which are mounted on the garage door panel around a third up from the bottom of the garage door.
More recent Mk3C and C-Type garage doors have a spring box unit WITH a plastic cover whereas very early Mk3C garage doors had a spring box unit WITHOUT a plastic cover.
The early Mk3C spring box units should be replaced in their entirety as changing the springs is both difficult and quite dangerous. Download the Garador MK3C / C-Type Spring Chart here. Download the C Spring Chart here.
Garador C-Type 1999 to 2000 geared canopy garage doors are easily identified by the absence of overhead tracks, the jamb mounted encased spring at each side of the garage door and the angled pulley wheel at the top of each jamb. The springs, as previously mentioned, are located at the sides of the garage door and are anchored at the base of the door frame jamb to a spring anchor bracket.
The six strengths of spring in this range are identified by colour bands around their girth and in the absence of the bands being visible, by the garage door size and style. Download the C Spring Chart here.
Garador RM and later DR (Double Retractable) geared fully retractable garage doors unlike the CM and DC garage doors do not form a canopy while in the open position. They are easily identified by the overhead tracks, similar in length as the height of the garage door, which are attached to the garage door frame and supported by straps from the ceiling.
The springs are located at the sides of the garage door anchored at the base of the garage door frame jamb to a spring anchor bracket and at the other end to a link arm which lifts and supports the garage door throughout its travel to the open position.
Pre 1998 springs are identified by their tag number (three digits) which if still in existence, should be wired to one end of the spring. On post 1998 springs the identification number is punched into the eye at on end of the spring. Download the Spring Chart here.
Garador CM and later DC (Double Canopy) geared semi-retractable garage doors are unique in that they are both tracked and yet form a canopy while in the open position. They are easily identified by the tracks which are self supporting being fixed only to the garage door frame jambs and stablised by a diagonal bracing bar to the head of the garage door frame.
In the highly likely event of the tag no longer being in existence the following information should prove useful in identifying the correct springs for the garage door. Download the Spring Chart here.
Garador Mk3C C-Type spring box units were discontinued as a spare part by Garador in 2002, however thanks to the enterprising efforts of one of our suppliers, we are still able to supply “Pattern” units for all doors that were fitted with these units.
These pattern units have been carefully modelled from the original units and are available in all the sizes previously offered by Garador. Careful attention to detail means our pattern boxes normally locate exactly in line with the fixing points of the original box, helping towards a hassle free installation.
Mk3C / C-Type doors manufactured up to 1999, can be identified by the spring box unit mounted above the door which contains two springs connected to cables which run over pulley wheels at the top corners of the door frame and within the side tracks, down to the roller spindles which are mounted on the door panel around a third up from the bottom of the door. The unit should have a label attached with a part number such as PN108 on it, this is the number you will need to order a pattern replacement. If there is no label in existence please view or download a spring box unit compatibility chart here.
More recent Mk3C and C-Type doors have a spring box unit WITH a plastic cover whereas very early Mk3C doors had a spring box unit WITHOUT a plastic cover. The early Mk3C spring box units should be replaced in their entirety as changing the springs is both difficult and quite dangerous.
Garador Mk3C / C-Type canopy doors fitted with spring box units were discontinued in 1999 in favour of a new C-Type gear with side extension springs.
